Notes

The Cupped Banded Greenhood orchid is easily identified by the unique shape of the lateral sepals that form a characteristic bowl surrounding the labellum. The green and brown flowers are slightly larger than those of the similar Dark Banded Greenhood (Pterostylis sanguinea). As with many Greenhood orchids, the labellum flips upwards when touched by an insect to assist pollination.

The Cupped Banded Greenhood is endemic to south-western WA (although avoiding the higher-rainfall areas in the far south-west) where it grows in the vicinity of trees in forests and woodlands. It is frequently found on the Darling Scarp east of Perth, the main flowering period being mid winter.
