Broad-petalled Snail Orchid
Pterostylis platypetala
Synonyms
- Pterostylis sp. ‘broad petals’
Notes
The Broad-petalled Snail Orchid is a fairly distinctive species characterised by its small stature, small basal rosette of leaves and relatively small flowers with fairly long sepals and broad petals. In addition, it usually flowers in June and July, making it one of the earliest Snail Orchids to flower each year.
The Broad-petalled Snail Orchid can be found across south-western WA in a narrow band ranging from Brookton in the south to Kalbarri in the north. It can be found in woodlands as well as along the margins of winter-wet flats, often growing in colonies of several dozen plants.
